A story is best conveyed when the characters are creative and fun to look at. The concept was based on a children's poem called 'The Adventures of Isabel' written by Ogden Nash. This poem talks about the various adventures Isabel faces alone in a mysterious jungle. Different character designs were tried out for both the giant and Isabel; with them a scene from the poem was illustrated. The main illustration was based off the following paragraph written by Ogden Nash

" Isabel met a hideous giant, Isabel continued self reliant.

The giant was hairy, the giant was horrid....He had one eye in the middle of his forehead

Good morning Isabel, the giant said.... I'll grind your bones to make my bread.

Isabel, Isabel, didn't worry.... Isabel didn't scream or scurry.

She nibbled the zwieback that she always fed off.... And when it was gone, she cut the giant's head off."
